With the permission of the Guild Master I will continue my studies with the second quest of the guild.

    1. A submission linking to two random subs.
    Sigh Inc. - http://strolen.com/viewing/Sigh_inc (Votes: 4; Rated:3.63)

    2. Two subs that link to the same source.
Main sub: Fungus gardeners - http://strolen.com/viewing/1327
    Derivative 1: Specialized fungus cultures - http://strolen.com/viewing/7375 (Votes: 8; Rated: 4.19)
    Derivative 2: Gardener Pfloem - http://strolen.com/viewing/7371 (Votes: 3; Rated: 4.5)

    3. Tag two old or new subs as Weavers Guild.
Mnogos, linking to the Totemos - http://strolen.com/viewing/5461 (Votes: 7; Rated: 4.5)
Venetto's soup spiders, linking to three other subs - http://strolen.com/viewing/7366 (Votes: 6; Rated: 4.08)

    4. Two ideas on two 2-year old subs, one upvoted.

Your dedication is noted and entered into our permanent records.  Since you are the first one to declare for the journeyman's quest, you get to set the precedent on how we choose random subs:

    1) Guild master's decision
    2) Choose two subs off your "Unvoted by Author" list in your profile
    3) Choose two subs of the random list here: I Am Exploring
    4) Use the results from a random number generator (sub ID 1 through 7377 currently)

2 and 3 are subtly different.  2 guarantees that you are using subs you haven't voted on, while 3 allows the possibility of repeats.

Dossta, does this mean whichever way Elbin chooses will be the sole way that random subs have to be chosen by you and me when we declare for this quest? I had already saved 2 subs in my fav list for this particular quest and I got the random subs by neither of the 3 approaches you listed. I went to the I'm Exploring link and picked 2 among the Random list that shows up in the middle of the page.

I was planning on giving him the honor, yes, but wasn't aware of the fourth option!  What I will do is offer every newcomer the same 4 options and let them decide.

For now, I'll take your word for it that your subs are random and not ask you to choose them again.  Are you declaring for this quest after you finish your 2nd level Strolenati challenge?

Well, I'm still deciding b/w the 2 level 2 quests. I want to write some subs for my Dragon Empire setting again and I usually declare for quests in the order of whichever one takes me less time to complete. In this case, both are substantial committments (and I'm blank slate on both) so then it comes down to whichever quest that I can come up with ideas for first.

Hmmm... just finished reading both of the random subs that I've tagged. Looks like I have to create sth on the dark side, which is sth completely new for me.

I'll take the fun way and leave it up to the Guild Master to pick the random subs.

***Excerpt from the dictionary in Elbin's head:

Fun, definition 43: Anything that is unexpected and cannot lead to harm.

Alright, a roll of a dice later and I give you your two seeds:

    1. Paradigm Shift and Magic by Scrasamax
    2. 30 Flesh Peddlers by Murometz

The Flesh Peddlers sub is labeled NC-17, so I will provide one alternative that can be used in place of either of these subs:
2.5 Harvester of Eyes by Pieh

    Lol

oh come now, its merely a listing of innocent archetypes  :P

And quite an enjoyable read, too :P  But I was charged with supplying the randomness, and I don't want to risk making anyone uncomfortable.  Bad for PR.

Elbin, can you put in number of votes and avg score next to submitted subs again? Prob. easily overlooked amongst all the other requirements but Dossta did indicate that all subs submitted towards this quest has to be avg. 3.25 with 3 votes. I think all of your subs meet this requirement except the most recently submitted one. It's a bit long, I do have the intention to read it eventually but currently busy.

I put the voting info in. I was waiting for someone to vote on the mushrooms, and I hadn't thought to include the votes on the old subs that I tagged.

About the random subs - I'll take the initial pair. After all it's up to me to mash them up, so what comes out may not be so questionable ;)
    Then again, it may be...

I see, well, will wait for the finished product (I mean the mix up 2 random subs), seems like they are totally different topics and not even remotely related but usually those are the subs most fun to do such an exercise for. My random drew from the I'm Exploring link brought me 2 subs with a dark theme (a plot and an item). In particular, the introduction of the item might bring the plot into a downwards spiral so currently introducing a twist to counter-balance this. But haven't started on the sub yet cos I'm working on my Dragon Empire setting.

Anyway, looking forward to your new sub.

Well, here it is, a strange product of a philosophical piece on magic and a listing of flesh dealing personas. The link is weaker than the others I've done, so tell me if it fits the requirement.

There is sth abt the sub that I feel is preventing me from giving it a score at the moment as I've indicated in my comment but then I can't disentangle it from the 'late night' effect (well, actually it isn't really that late here, it's only 10:30 p.m.). Okay, maybe what I really mean is I need more time to ponder over the content somehow.

Take your time and don't go easy on me :) I have mixed feelings about this one too.
  16. Re: Elbin's dedication - A journey into history

Right, I will. I tend to play nice (within a margin of 0.5, sometimes I worry abt dragging down ppl's avg score on a sub)  but if you explicitly ask me to not ease up, I will of course follow my heart.
  17. Re: Elbin's dedication - A journey into history

1 more vote, 1 more sub and 2 more ideas, and then you have your level 2!

Alright, back after the weekend and I can see you've been busy.  Will try to read/comment on all Weaver-related stuff before the end of the day, lunch break allowing!
  19. Re: Elbin's dedication - A journey into history

Wow, that turned into a really interesting setting piece.  Sigh inc is not as cohesive as a lot of your original stuff is, but those were two really tough subs to combine.  Glad it ended up working out in the end!
  20. Re: Elbin's dedication - A journey into history

    #20
Yes, I had to add the setting part in order to facilitate the central idea. I was seriously thinking about making a sub for the setting first, but I decided not to because then it was going to be two posts instead of one. I can probably use it as a basis for the setting later.

I mentioned this in my suggestion for future quest requirements thread, but my own and Val's fav lists (that can be accessed under the Library link on frontpage)- titled Scroll Additions and Lists you must contribute to, contain a lot of older than 2 years scrolls. Just a FYI post cos I think it will save you time from hunting for scrolls older than 2 years.

Now only waiting for the Strolenites to show their opinion on Pfloem, and we'll know if I pass the test of the Journeyman quest.

The votes are in, and it seems I pass. Only the Guild Master's word is left :)

Alright, I've gone over all of your subs, ideas and comments and everything checks out!  Congratulations, Elbin, you are the Weavers' very first Journeyman.  As promised in an earlier thread, I plan on modifying the Weavers Guild graphic with Journeyman and Masters' stripes (just haven't gotten around to doing it yet).  Will try to get on that this week.

I will also have to get back to the brainstorming threads for new quests -- seems it may be time for a Master's dissertation quest, and possibly an "area of specialization/research" quest for people who wish to further their studies. :)

In the meantime, please accept my heartfelt congratulations and this special certificate of achievement.  You have first pick of the quarters in the Journeymans' wing, and well-earned!

Thank you, Guild Master! I will search the premises and claim a spot that suits my needs. I will wait patiently for my next step in the Weavers.

Congrats, the first Journeyman of our Guild! I believe our Guild Leader will soon embark on the journey that you just went through and then I will eventually take it up. I have all the needed ideas lined up for this particular quest now but they are still in the nebulous at the moment.
