Alrighty, one slot left open for any takers.

    What we have currently:
    Valadaar the Paladin
    Dozus the Cleric
Ancient Gamer the as yet to be determined
    a potential fourth player.

If at all possible I would like character sheets by this coming Thursday (1-17-08) and we will begin shortly afterwards.

    Some notes:
The Summon Mount spell (lv 1) summons a default avian large enough to carry one person and their gear, rather than a horse.

Air and weather related spells gain +1, Earth and stone related spells suffer a -1

Players who do not wish to have a personal mount (Ride skill/aerial is considered a basic skill and may be purchased as if it were a class skill regardless of class) can purchase a Cloud Hopper (skill to use is out of class skill unless player is a rogue) for 100 GP. Personal mounts (giant birds, non combative, AC-14 HP-12) can be purchased for the same cost as a light horse.

    Description:
Tall and thin, Cloudstrider's frame is typically half-elven.  High cheekbones meet with rougher human features, making a gaunt face with a slightly crooked nose.  Straight sand-colored hair falls just over pointed ears and onto the nape of the neck; a wrapped cotton headband holds it in place.  Bright elven eyes, gray as steel, peer out from a bemused high brow.  A simple tattoo - an empty black circle below the right ear with a straight line following up below the eye - marks his face.  The left ear is full of brass rings, pierced from the pointed tip down to the lobe.  He wears an iron breastplate etched with Kaduai images, heroes and spirits struggling over evil.  Over the armor is a rawhide jacket, bright blue feathers strung up the sleeves.  He wears brown cotton trousers in the typical human fashion with a wide leather belt holding them in place.  High leather boots shod his feet, ending in a small iron spur at the end of the heels.  A shortspear, decorated with a pair of red and blue feathers on the haft, is strapped to his back along with two javelins.

    Background:
The son of a frontier settler and a native Kaduai elf, Cloudstrider Balthustrol is a man of two worlds.  In the past several decades, more and more settlers have arrived in Kaduai Nation's islands looking for homesteads and pantarbe to send back to their various kingdoms and empires.  Early on, tensions between the settlers and the elves were uneasy and occasionally resulted in conflict.  That did not stop Rainshadow, a Kaduai tribesman, from seeking the beautiful Serai Balthustrol, a human settler near his village.  Their forbidden union produced a lovechild whom Rainshadow named Cloudstrider.  Serai raised Cloudstrider with the help of her grandfather, who was aware of and blessed their relationship.  For years, they lived happily in the Balthustrol homestead, Cloudstrider visiting as often as he could.  But tragedy would strike: in a territorial conflict, human settlers provoked the Kaduai into war.  Elven warriors stormed the colonial settlement, burning homes and killing the outlanders.  Serai died attempting to protect her child, and her grandfather while attempting to protect her.  The thirteen year old Cloudstrider fought back as best he could; the Kaduai warriors were impressed by his heart and surprised by his elvish appearance.  They captured him and returned him to the village.  Rainshadow, who refused to participate in the fighting, recognized his son on their return and knew immidiately that Serai was gone.  He mourned for her, but then took his son in as a full-fledged Kaduai.  In the Kaduai Nation, cooler heads soon prevailed, bringing peace between the natives and the human settlers.  Cloudstrider came to accept his mother's death and was raised to Kaduai manhood by his father.

That was then.  As more humans settled in Kaduai territory, conflict was on the rise.  Many islands began to be mined out, slowly sinking from lack of pantarbe.  Cloudstrider, now 34, sought new sources of income for both his tribe and his family.  Trained as a shaman of Kata Rangi - the Sky Mother and chief goddess of Kaduai animism - Cloudstrider kissed his wife and daughter goodbye and left to sell his services as a healer and explorer.  With knowledge of both the human and elven worlds, he hopes to be a valuable (and expensive) asset to the settlers of the kingdoms and empires of Epoa.

Tahar is a tall solid man, with dark eyes and darker hair.  Barely 18, his eyes speak of great sadness and resolve.  He wears the simple clothing of a skyship sailor, though the outlines of some type of light armor beneath are obvious.  Bearing both axe and shortbow, he appears more marine then sailor.

The fifth son of a cliff-farming family, Tahar was given into the custody of the Church of the Azure Lord, for they could ill afford to feed the additional mouth. Taken in at a young age, Tahar is greatly imprinted by the ethics and teachings of the Azure Lord, though more in spirit then in word.  Within the Church was the Order of the Stone, a military order tasked with the defense of the High temple, a glorius white marble temple atop a massive sky island.   The Island lay within the domain claimed by King Tanquebel the Forth, a shifty monarch who disliked but tolerated the order.  After a failed war with a neighboring kingdom, King Tanquebel turned his own army of fanatics against the Order of the Stone, destroying most of them and scattering the remainder.  The skyship that Tahar was a crewman was disabled through subterfuge, and Tahar barely survived, nearly drowning in the seas below.  With the Order defeated, the Kings minions fell upon the home of the Temple and scourged it of its ore, sinking the island and temple to barely above the violent seas.

With the betrayal of his order by King Wanvaris, and the subsequent rape of the Island's Pantarbe, Tahar has been left somewhat aimless. He seeks to someday restore the High Temple and raise it back into the heavens, but lacks any ideas or power to implement them. For now he simply seeks a living amoung the skyships,

    Appearance:
Appearance: Short, lean and bald. Naraias has a somewhat crooked nose, tanned skin and hazel brown eyes. Standing at 5' 3" he is a head lower than his previous girl friend.

Clothing: Naraias favours brown and blue clothing, usually wearing a hazel brown cloak that matches his eyes. The cloak can be worn both ways and is dark grey on the inside.

Demeanor: While having been brought up in a wealthy, strict family, Naraias is nonetheless extroverted and good natured. He appreciates the good sides of life; music, wine and wenching. He has been forced to kill at times, particularly during his days as a pirate, though he takes no pleasure in doing so. Some say there is a darker aspect to Naraias; that he would sell his own children if the price was right. This rumour is dismissed by most people, however, for they cannot believe that this jovial fellow harbours any evil.

    History:
Naraias was first brought up in villas and mansions, and later on the streets of Akhone, a confederate island city-state famous for its old money and the grand cathedral known as "The Seven Spires of Our Father". Akhone is an island city of wealth and beauty, where wealthy shipping magnates keep vast villas. Naraias, coming from old money himself, did not lack anything during his upbringing. Yet he found no peace while listening to the endless lectures at the cathedral school, nor any pleasure in the private tutoring in piano and swordplay. So Naraias was a mediocre student at best, earning him no repute in the city, a fact he would regret later, as his family's fortunes declined and his father no longer could afford tuition for his sons. As an indifferent and undistinguished student he struggled to find a suitable job.

It was at this time Naraias sought labour aboard "The Black Wyvern", a fast sloop out of the Dvorak Massive, or so they said. As it turned out it was crewed by seadogs of various nations and called no port home. It was captained by Nekeraul, a human of ill repute, and already on his first voyage Naraias experienced trouble, for the ship was hounded by a squadron of Notari warships. For months they were dogged, the Black Wyvern narrowly escaping capture several times.

In the end the Wyvern was hunted down and those of the crew that were unable to escape, which Nekeraul managed to, were forced to walk the plank, their screams fading as they plummeted through the skies. Fortunately for Naraias, he had managed to hide under the keel and rudder, where he clinged precariously on until they reached port.

After reaching port Naraias has made a living as a card player and sometime member of a group of singers at the Broken Wing tavern in [starting town]. Having just ended a destructive relationship with Eranya Nilurwid, a local girl and bar wench, Naraias wants to get out of town as soon as possible, rather than keep watching his best friend and his former girlfriend fall even more in love (as well as failing hideously at keeping the secret hidden from him).

Tip to avoid GM boredom during a forum rpg session:

Never have it all planned out!

Have a general idea of what you want with the game, but use the players to their fullest. Let their actions and their words inspire you and if you at any time thing "oh man, this is so tedious... like copying a manuscript" Well, then it is time to twist and shake your plot.

Make the game a creative process and it becomes fun, fun, fun!

Been down with fever for a few days. I am getting better, but I gotta attend some tuition so I won't be posting until sometime next week. Life is busy but I hope I am allowed back in the game when I return.

Scras: Autopilot Naraias until I return.

    Heads up.

I've been doing some talking and I'd like to bring Cry of Freedom back into action. I'd like to know if you are all still in. I'd also like to arrange an in-chat meeting for the players and myself.

I'm available to chat from 9:00AM EST till 12:00PM EST Monday through Friday, variable hours on the weekend, or possibly after 11:00PM EST through the week.

I'm in and I am interested in chatting, but I think it would be great if the number of player characters in chat would be > 2.

Unless things drastically change, I will be online Friday evening at 11:00 PM Eastern Standard Time.  Wife is heading out of town and I have to work Saturday.

How many people can we put in chat?

Drastic change actually happened. One of our suppliers fell on their collective faces and lost an 8,000 pound shipment of wool thread and we are not running Saturday. This means that I will be leaving Friday evening for Lexington and will be gone for the weekend.

    Epoa!

    Fly me to Epoa
    Let me cradle the Sky!
    Guide me to Epoa
    Once more ‘fore I die!

    Lend me Pantarbe
    Gift me a wing!
    Sun-kissed Pantarbe
    O’ Dragonsails sing!

I yearn to explore the wild heavens
I step boldly to stride upon clouds!
    I cherish the cerulean rapture
Of Epoa I sing aloud! To Epoa I am avowed!

    Fly me to Epoa
    If only once more!
    To soar with the eagles
    As I have before!

Keep all your water, your mud, and your flame
Gods give me Epoa, my airy domain!

Well, we are finally back from the stunningly beautiful state of Kentucky. It was a hell of a trip, we left late Friday evening, arriving in Lexington about 12:30 AM, and then we drug ourselves out of bed to the horse show at 6:30 AM. It was cold, and drizzling rain most of the morning. Still, watching the mist of rain across green pastures lined with fences, and horses walking around utterly indifferent to the rush or the weather. It was rough, but it was also nice.

Showed till about 6 PM, then went and played with real horses for a couple of hours. There was a delay, our glorious leader Shannon has engine failure and we spent about an hour sitting on the median of the highway while intrepid husbands and boyfriends made field repairs on her jeep. One distributor cap and rotor assembly later we are off to play with the horses.

After horses we all descended like locusts on the local Olive Garden. After several pitchers of sangria and the arrival of Shannon's boyfriend (Who happens to work at an affiliated establishment, 25% discount for employees rocks!) we rolled back to the motel and crashed, once again around midnight.

Sunday was much the same, more horse show but an earlier departure after my 90 pound wife WON the watermelon eating contest. We get to London KY, and shred a tire on the interstate, thankfully there was some forwarning so we had already exited and were on the ramp looking for a gas station when the tread ripped apart. Sunday, 7PM, no one with tires for sale was open, so we drove another 150 or so miles home on a ritz cracker with a rubber band around it, the emergency donut. That is a slow drive at 50MPH/80KPH.

So here I am, finally checking my email. Looks like the site was jumping over the weekend and it will be a bit before I get all caught up.

I expect to have CoF running (hopefully) by this weekend.

The storm clouds are disappearing from the horizon. There is the wedding this weekend, but after that I am available.
